What’s new from the shows: Companies introduce tires for all kinds of uses in agriculture.
By Farm Progress staff
Competition for your farm tire business remains intense. Several companies introduced tires for various uses and in various price ranges within the past few months. Some of the introductions were made at farm shows, where farmers could easily see how the new tires might fit into their operations.
Some companies, such as Firestone, introduced whole new lines of tires. The EVO Series of farm tires is geared to be an economic good choice in several sizes of tires. Others introduced specific tires with specific uses in mind.
If you need a big rear tractor tire, or a front tire for a front-wheel assist tractor, your combine or your sprayer, odds are you can find it among the new series of tires released recently. As equipment grows larger, such as combines and grain carts, tires specifically designed for those uses to carry that type of weight and load often come along with introduction of the implement.
Different row spacings also spur companies to consider offering varying widths of tires that will work well in those fields. Some companies manufacture certain tires specifically for self-propelled sprayers — which often need narrow tires with a minimal footprint — and for fertilizer application equipment.
Check out all the new tires editors found at recent farm shows.

CEAT might be new to the U.S. farm tire market, but the India-based company is not new to manufacturing high-quality tires. Its new 85/80/70 Series agriculture radial tires have a greater lug overlap and more lugs in the footprint for better stability in the field. They contain a larger inner volume, which translates to reduced soil compaction and an increased load-carrying capacity. With reduced space between the lugs and a mud breaker at the center, CEAT’s ag radial lineup is self-cleaning, with increased service life. Learn more at ceatspecialty.com.

CEAT’s new Row Crop agriculture radial tires are equipped with rounded shoulders for less soil disturbance. These farm tires have a deep tread pattern with a high lug angle and more overlap at the center, which gives them longer service life and better stability on the road and in the field. They have a strong nylon carcass and strong bead for a better ride at higher speeds. You can get more information at ceatspecialty.com.

The 65 Series agriculture radial tires from CEAT are larger tires with a wider tread for a larger footprint and lower soil compaction. With the 65 Series, you get a greater lug overlap and more lugs in the footprint, which provides improved handling on the road and better traction in the field. The variable-groove-contour design provides better self-cleaning properties. These tires also have an R1-W tread depth for longer service life, as well as rounded shoulders for less soil disturbance. CEAT introduces its Farmax R1 lineup of farm bias tires, with robust lugs and dual-angle tread for enhanced performance in the field and on the road, and a longer service life as well. The reinforced carcass of the tires and increased overlap of the lug at the center gives the tires better self-cleaning properties and flexibility for multiple uses on the farm and ranch under tough conditions. Alliance Tire Group released its new durable 372 Agriflex 1250/R32 steel-belted tire with a carrying capacity of 50,000 pounds. This tire, fitted on a grain cart, trails well and offers high performance and low compaction, thanks to its larger footprint and R-1W pattern design. Carcass construction of these steel-belted tires ensures working with high deflection without heat buildup. You can learn more details at atgtire.com or by calling 781-321-3910.

The 398 MPT tires from Alliance Tire Group are available in four new sizes to provide multipurpose tires with high traction in the field and on the road at speeds up to 62 mph. The large footprint of these tires provides flotation for low soil compaction and field-to-highway service. The block-type center “S” tread design also allows for stability in the field and comfort on the road, and the steel construction of the 398 helps prevent punctures from stubble. Trelleborg’s new 480/80R50 TM600 farm tire is an ideal solution for muddy conditions with increased road performance. The original tread design for the TM600 has been developed for producers who need a tire to cover the gap between the R1-W and R2 tread types. The new 480/80R50 is perfect for tough mud conditions in the field and light road use. A reduction in the number of lugs increases traction and improves self-cleaning properties, but the larger lug base enhances stability. Get the details at trelleborg.com or call 866-633-8473.

Leaving less compaction but getting maximum traction in the field is the mission for the new Tractor70 and Tractor85 farm tire lineup from Continental Tire. The Tractor70 tires are wider with a larger footprint, and have self-cleaning ability and traction thanks to smooth, rounded lugs. With a new bead design, these tires can run at lower pressures. The Tractor85 is the farm tire for all seasons; it’s narrow enough to fit into the furrow, but wide enough to fill the role of a versatile, heavy-duty farm tire. Titan/Goodyear’s new R14 is a combination of the company’s R1 agricultural and R4 industrial tires. Designed for those tractors with 150 hp or less, the R14 offers the ability to move well in softer, heavier soil, along with added traction. This tire takes the outside mold of the R1 and the inside mold of R4 with its lug shape, like the company’s flagship Optitrac tire, and puts them all in one tire tread. This is a bolt-on tire. For midrange tractors, Titan/Goodyear updated its Optitrac LSW 380/70R46 to include a new tread design. This deep tread allows these utility tractors to work in even the toughest of conditions — even heavy, wet soils. Don’t worry about the cleanup; the 45-degree tread lug angles offer a self-cleaning action. Still, the design offers a comfortable ride while doing chores. Not all tractors are doing tillage on 5,000 acres. Some are hauling feed to livestock. Firestone now has Performer EVO tires for your utility tractors. This new lineup gives farmers the option of moving from a bias-ply to radial tires for better wear and tear. The curved bar pattern provides a good ride, while getting great traction. The new Performer EVO kept the 23-degree 480/80R46 on the back tires, while pairing well with the Performer EVO 460/85R38 on the front.
